Work on waste plant begins today

Sanitation project is part of Sabarimala Master Plan


SABARIMALA: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) and the High Power Committee for implementation of Sabarimala Master Plan will launch the work on the proposed sewage treatment plant (STP) at Sabarimala Sannidhanam on Tuesday.

Talking to The Hindu here on Monday, Devaswom Commissioner P. Venugopal said the proposed STP was designed for biological treatment of sewage which, according to experts, was the most suitable one at a place like Sabarimala.

Mr Venugopal said the STP, estimated to cost a total of Rs.22.5 crore, would be completed in the next 12 months itself.


Devaswom Minister V.S. Sivakumar would lay the foundation stone for the project at a function to be held at the Devaswom auditorium at 9.30 am on Tuesday, he added.


Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Forest Minister, will deliver the keynote address. M.P. Govindan Nair, Travancore Devaswom Board president, will preside over the function.


Subhash Vasu, P.K. Kumaran, TDB members; K. Sivadasan Nair, Raju Abraham, both MLAs; K. Babu, Special Commissioner appointed by Kerala High Court; K.R. Jyotilal, Principal Secretary to Devaswom; Saji Chacko, District Panchayat President; P. Venugopal, Devaswom Commissioner; Pranab Jyotinath, District Collector; and P.S. Jolly Ullas, TDB Chief Engineer; will also address the function.


The Hyderabad-based Ramky Infrastructure Limited was implementing the project, Mr Venugopal said.
