Proposal to charge private firms for dumping waste passed

BHOPAL: Proposals to charge private organizations for dumping biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at Bhanpur dumping site, besides inclusion of 74 villages within BMC limits and other proposals were passed at the Mayor-in-council (MiC) meeting here on Wednesday. This is ahead of the scheduled general council meeting of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on January 31. Besides, educational institutions like schools, colleges, hostels and library would be exempted from property tax, provided the building is owned by them.

 

Rs 100 per tonne would be charged for dumping biodegradable waste, Rs 200 per tonne for non-biodegradable waste and for mixed waste Rs 150 per tonne would be charged. Besides, the contract for Raja Bhoj bridge toll tax has been awarded for Rs 45 lakh to Trishul company. The MiC passed proposal for magnetic meters for 95 water tanks and payment of Rs 29 lakhs to MP Electricity Board (MPEB) for 1 KW of power. The council consolidated the scheme for rag pickers and door-to-door garbage collectors, that 250 houses would be covered by one cycle-rickshaw instead of 200. BMC would spend Rs 1.78 crores for diesel and petrol charges.

 

In accordance with the order passed by MP high court regarding property tax, the MiC also passed that banks, ATMs etc that have been rented out or leased by educational institutions would be under the ambit of property tax.
