Karnataka, AP should work together to save water wastage

The Hindu, 11 March 2014

BELLARY: V.P. Uddihal, former Chief Engineer of the Tungabhadra Board, underlined the need for Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh governments to work together to save their share of water from the Tungabhadra reservoir that was going waste.

Delivering a key-note address at the day-long seminar on ‘Reservoir sedimentation & remedial measures – a case study of Tungabhadra reservoir’, on Monday, Mr. Uddihal said that futher delay in this matter would only result in shortage of water.

“The storage capacity has come down by 34 tmc feet as against its original capacity of 133 tmc feet, owing to siltation over the years.

If steps are not initiated the reservoir would be catering only for drinking water purposes and definitely not for irrigation”, he said.
