Water paucity mars ODF declaration

DIPAYAL: Despite the construction of accessible latrines at every household and the declaration of villages as open defecation free zone, dry taps are making a mockery of the declaration in Doti.

 

Kotgaun region of Pachnali VDC was declared the first ODF area in the district, but the latrines have become attics.

 

Prakash Rawal, an engineer at the Far-western Regional Monitoring and Supervision Office, Dipayal, said that the VDCs which were declared ODF areas are in short supply of water. “Foul smell has spread all around due to water crisis in the areas,” argued the rights activists.

 

The locals were compelled to construct latrines due to pressure from different authorities including the threat that recommendation letters for social security would not be issued and they would be deprived of allowance.
