Over a third of Gujarat's children are malnourished and HALF lack basic amenities

The BJP may boast of the economic progress in Gujarat under its rule, but the party-led state government admits that it lags behind in fighting malnutrition, with urban areas surpassing those in rural hinterlands.


By the Gujarat government’s admission during the ongoing Assembly session, Ahmedabad tops the list with 43,820 malnourished children, followed by Vadodara with 8,363, and Rajkot with 4,867 children suffering from malnutrition.


The government not only admits that the malnutrition levels in the urban areas are much higher than their rural counterparts, but also that 50 per cent of urban areas lack basic infrastructure like water supply and sanitation. Read more....
