BELGAUM: Disturbed by the rape of a minor girl who had stepped out of her house to answer the nature's call, Belgaum-based actor Ramesh Parvinaikar has made a film that highlights the importance of toilets and sanitation.
'Gandhiji Kanasu' (Dream of Gandhiji) revolves around rural development and Gram Swarajya.
Parvinaikar is a zilla panchayat member from Naganur constituency in Bailhongal taluk. He is a theatre artist and has acted in nine Kannada movies. After he became a panchayat member, he came face to face with the people's problems. The rape of a minor girl in Raibag taluk prompted him to make a movie to create awareness on the importance of toilets. Parvinaikar says there are still many misconceptions and superstitions among rural people about building toilets in their homes. Read more....
