Over 60 per cent of government schools in J&K have no toilets, a Department of School Education and Literacy (DISE) survey 2013- 2014 conducted by the Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) survey revealed.
According to the MHRD’s nation-wide survey, 18.7 per cent government schools in the state have dysfunctional toilets.
J&K figures at the fourth rank among 36 states where a majority of government schools have either no toilets or dysfunctional toilets. Meghalaya (94 per cent), Arunachal Pradesh, (80 per cent) and Telangana (77 per cent) are the three states which have fared worse than J&K when it comes to government schools without toilets.
