Minister asks schools to ensure better sanitation

BHUBANESWAR: The state government has asked all schools to take necessary steps for ensuring better sanitation and hygiene without fail. Schools have been asked to spend up to 50% of the total school improvement grant for the purpose.


"This year it has been decided to focus on ensuring sanitation and hygiene facilities in schools," said school and mass education secretary Usha Padhee.


"Maintenance of sanitation and hygiene in schools has been a critical issue, which has greater impact on quality and retention. Though there have been several directions issued from time to time by the department these basic facilities are not provided in a time-bound manner," she said. Read more....
