NEW DELHI: The Centre has made a suggestion to the states to merge their Water and Sanitation departments with an aim to give a push to the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, which seeks to make the country free of open defecation by 2019.
The advice from the Centre to the states comes in light of the Narendra Modi government's stress on sanitation.
The Centre has asked the states to step up the efforts to make the country open-defecation free by 2019 as that would be a "fitting tribute" to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary that year. Read more....
