Celebrating “important days” around water, hygiene and sanitation — even if one has to be made up — to create awareness, is part of the activities at the Gender Resource Centres (GRC) across the city. Mission Convergence, which runs these GRCs, has a ‘Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) programme’ that throws light on the impact of poor hygiene on health and employment.
“The Mission, however, is just an implementing agency and its job is to generate awareness,” said an official, adding it is left to the civic bodies and other government Departments to take the same forward.
In many GRCs, community mobilisers have also been involved in mapping the state of toilets. Read more....
