BHUBANESWAR: Of the 58,000 government-run schools in the state, more than 8,000 don't have toilets for girls while in another 12,500, the toilets are lying defunct, according to a recent report of the Union ministry of human resources development (MHRD).
Under the Narendra Modi government's ?Swach Vidyalaya, Swach Bharat' (Clean school, clean India) initiative, the MHRD has posted mapping of schools without toilets till the block level in the country. Individuals or organizations, who would like to build toilets, can click on ?Build Toilets - Search Schools' link and select institution of their choice.
The state has 58,412 government-run schools. The department of school education and literacy report said 8,196 schools don't have any toilet provision for girls while 13,452 schools are without boys' toilets. Girls' toilets in 12,520 schools and boys' toilets in 9,040 institutions are lying defunct, the report said. Read more....
