Rs 1.5 crore plant at Kopri will turn floral waste into organic manure

THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) pollution control department in collaboration with a local non-governmental organization - Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth (SBV) has initiated a Rs 1.5 crore project for generating organic manure from all the floral waste that shall be collected from immersion sites across the city. The manure will be useed in civic gardens and housing societies.

 

A full-fledged set up is coming up at TMC's sewage treatment plant (STP) at Hari Om Nagar, Kopri. This plant will segregate ceremonial puja waste and produce them into organic manure. As many as 25 women have been given employment for the project on experimental basis for five years.

 

"Concerned about increasing pollution level, we envisaged to collect all floral waste from various mandals and housing societies to convert them into organic manure through recycling. We are spending Rs 50 lakh for next five years to realise this project. And the rest of the amount will be sourced by SBV," said Manisha Pradhan, TMC's pollution control chief. Read more....
