The Chhattisgarh Government is going to organise a series of programmes for creating awareness among the people regarding the importance of cleanliness.


The programmes would start with sanitation pledge to be taken in the entire State on October 2–the birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Secretary GS Mishra while addressing a news conference here on Tuesday informed that oath will be administered from State to Village level on October 2 at 9.45 am.


The Chief Minister has directed district In-charge ministers to reach their districts and participate in the pledge taking ceremony. After taking the pledge, the sanitation drive will commence, he said.


On October 15 ,which is observed as ‘World Hand Wash Day’, hand washing programmes would be conducted in every school across the State. A rally will be taken out between 12 am and 3 pm the same day to promote habit of cleanliness in people, he said. Help of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will be also taken to increase awareness among people towards maintaining sanitation, he informed.


To a query about lack of dustbins in public places due to which garbage is littered, the Secretary admitted that there are shortcomings. “There are shortcomings which are needed to be sorted out. However, this programme is being conducted for creating awareness among people towards cleanliness,” Mishra said. Read more....
