Cleanliness campaign a hit

The announcement of the Swachh Bharat Mission has not only got the civic agencies planning major sanitation and cleanliness programmes in the days to come, it has also got all the political parties involved. No one now wants to be seen on the wrong side of the law or the general perception on cleanliness. This was clearly visible during the Yuva Akrosh Rally organised by the Indian Youth Congress at Jantar Mantar. As plastic bottles and flags lay strewn all around, Youth Congress leader Rajeev Satav urged party workers to clean up before they dispersed. His concern was pretty clear: the BJP could try and make political capital by undertaking a mop-up exercise at the venue. However, the appeal went in vain: huge piles of refuse could be seen all around after the event got over. It was then left to waste pickers to bag the plastic. Read more....
