ALAPPUZHA: A headmistress of a government school has been placed under suspension following complaints that she had forced students to clean the school toilet as punishment for failing to wear uniforms.
The incident occurred at the Thambakachuvadu Government Upper Primary School in Mannancherry grama panchayat on September 26 when school headmistress Helen had imposed the punishment on 26 students of classes 2-7.
According to the complaint submitted at Mannancherry police station by guardians of the students, they were forced to clean the toilet in the morning for the duration of a period.
However, on being questioned, the headmistress justified her action by claiming that the students were participating in a sanitation drive conducted within the school premises. She also refuted allegations that the students had been punished. Read more....
