Sanitation worker booked for graft; had 1cr in assets

SURAT: He drew a monthly salary of around Rs 20,000 as a sanitation worker of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), but had property worth Rs 1 crore in his name.


Ishwar Patel, a SMC 'beldar', spent almost 32.75 per cent more than his income, owned a farmhouse valued at Rs 75 lakh near the city, lived in a plush bungalow at Magdalla and had a fleet of cars, including an SUV, parked outside his residence.


He was booked by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday for allegedly accumulating assets and spending money disproportionate to his known sources of income. An ACB inquiry found that he had spent Rs 22 lakh above his declared sources of income. Read more....
