World Hand Washing Day observed

The importance of washing hands as part of personal hygiene was explained by volunteers, social workers and teachers who spoke at a function held at the Municipal school in Machuvadi here on the occasion of World Hand Washing Day on Wednesday.


J. Raja Mohamed, Honorary Secretary of the district branch of Indian Red Cross Society said that the objective of the day was, originally, aimed at training school pupils to develop the habit of washing their hands. In the present-day context, the programme sought to benefit even the adults. He said that washing the hands prevented many diseases, particularly respiratory infections. It was more important after using toilets, he said.


Armstrong, district coordinator of the Society, conducted a demonstration on the procedure for hand washing. Read more....
