Irony! This 'urban' village in Punjab has no water, sanitation or cremation grounds

Chandigarh, Nov 7: Saini Majra is a unique village in the Ropar district of Punjab. Interestingly, it is unique not because of its demography or culture, but because of the 'urban' status that it was given by the Punjab government last week, despite the fact that the village does not have a proper sanitation, drinking water and cremation groubds, which are the basic requirements of an urban area.

 

The incident came to light when the villagers challenged the Punjab Government's 2013 notification before the Haryana High Court. Following this, the court issued a notice to the government last week. Read more....
