Most toilets defunct in this ‘model village’

A mix of surprise and disappointment greeted presspersons during a visit to Sultanpur in Sandur taluk, a ‘model village’ as far as construction of individual household latrines is concerned.

 

The visit was organised by Communication for Development and Learning, a non-governmental organisation as part of a media workshop on sanitation. It was supposed to help the participants understand the impediments in ensuring total sanitation and how to overcome it through media intervention.

 

Almost all the houses in the village had toilets, which was a surprise. There were concrete roads and drains in front of pucca houses, most of which had tap water connections. However, the journalists were disappointed to know that over 50 per cent of the toilets were not put to use. Read more....
